international news of egypt angery of the prices rising

Today alot of egyptian dose not went to work or schools to share the otheres the angery from increasing the prices by a mad way last months which includes all the food items and here some of this news :MAHALLA EL-KOBRA, Egypt: Thousands of demonstrators angry about rising prices hurled bricks at police who responded with tear gas Sunday in a gritty northern industrial town as Egyptians defied government warnings and staged a nationwide strike. About 50 people were injured and another 50 were arrested in the town of Mahalla el-Kobra, where riots broke out after police blocked a workers' strike at the nation's largest textile factory there. Nearly 100 others, including activists and prominent trade unionists, were arrested across Egypt, officials said. Elsewhere around the country, thousands of Egyptians skipped work and school, and hundreds protested over rising prices and deteriorating conditions for workers. The strike was the first major attempt by opposition groups to turn the past year's labor unrest and rising anger over the economy into a wider political protest against the government, only two days before key elections for local councils on Tuesday, causing jitters in the government. Nearly 40 percent of Egyptians live below or near the poverty line of US$2 (€1.25) a day. The prices of staples such as cooking oil and rice have nearly doubled in recent months, amid widespread shortages of government-subsid... bread. But the government strongly warned citizens against participating in any strikes or demonstrations Sunday and worked feverishly behind the scenes with labor leaders in Mahalla to keep the long promised strike from taking place. In the end, hordes of riot police kept protesters off Cairo's main squares and plainclothes agents stopped any workers from striking at the huge Mahalla factory. "From 3 a.m. they took control of the inside of the company with plainclothes security," said Mustafa Foda, 25-year veteran of the facility. "Anyone who tried to talk was taken." The leaders of last September's strike in Mahalla, which sparked a wave of labor unrest around the country, said they decided against another strike Sunday after the government promised to pass a law raising the minimum wage — a move opposed by the younger activists. "They are working on our demands, so why go on strike?" labor leader Sayyid Habib told The Associated Press. "We have to give them a chance to see improvements," he added, suggesting they would reevaluate the situation in July. Inside the factory, business continued as usual throughout the day with thousands of machines spinning out polyester, cotton and silk bolts of cloth. After the shift's end, however, workers poured out of the plant gates and started demonstrating in the town's main square. "It was about rising prices, it seems that there was no organized demonstration and it happened spontaneously," said Joel Beinin, an expert on labor movements from the American University in Cairo who was on the scene. "A lot of young kids and women took part, and actually a few of the women were quite militant and urging people to get into the middle of it." An Egyptian security official said the 2,000 protesters damaged property and hurled bricks, forcing police to disperse them with tear gas. About 50 were injured by the bricks and gas
